Today is Karthigai Deepam !!!

Today is Karthigai deepam for us and for my Renga ! It is a grand occassion in Srirangam.

We call it as Sokka Panai.. It is said that the fire is made out of dry palm leaves so that He would feel warm..

My Renga would be standing near the Chakkarathalvar sannithi and the sokka panai would be near Karthigai gopura vasal. Usually it is done at 8 pm. Dry palm leaves would be gathered to a height of around 25 foot and the family (Muraikarar) who are supposed to lit the fire would go to the top and light the fire (with the help of a ladder).

It would take 2-3 minutes and then we can see the huge ball of fire... Devotees would be standing at a safer distance and it is really beautiful to watch Renga and Sokkapanai.. Ninacha sirippa than irukku, avarukku kuluram, athan sokkapanai panni, we are making him warm :) He is the almighty.. might seem kiddish, but then He is never a God to us.. He is our king, He is one amongst us, He is within us, so we treat Him like that.. Love you Renga :)

It would take around 15 minutes to burn completely and then we would run to gather that charcoal.. Considered to be auspicious and we keep it in Pooja room.. We also use it as Vibuthi, to frighten fear :)

This year i missed all fun.. I am in Chennai and my Renga is enjoying in Srirangam.. I know that He too would be missing me.. Would come to you soon Renga.. Forever.. Just some more time.. Loving you so much !!!

An evening with Appala Rengan

It came as a sudden thought to visit one of the Pancha Rangam Kshetrams - Appala Rangam (Appakudathaan- Koviladi).
(The other kshetrams being - Aathi Rangam(Srirangapatnam), Madhya Rangam (Srirangam), Chathurthara Rangam (Kumbakonam), Pancha Rangam (Indhalur))

It was a beautiful evening with a glowing moon and star lit sky. I proceeded to this kshetram from Srirangam, enjoying the scenic beauty. It is located near Kallanai. It is a pleasure to drive from srirangam, coz you have the company of cauvery river all along. It was an awesome drive to Appala Rangam.

Upon reching there, i was astounded by the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Had a superb darshan of Renga and Thayar.
You can read the details of the kshetram here

A glimpse of Renga always brings solace to my heart, however disturbed it may be ! That is my Renga !!!

Soul stirring - Veenai Ekandham

Sorry for not posting for quite sometime.

Veenai ekandham is one grand event that i would never like to miss during Vaikunda Ekadasi.
After a long day at Ayirangal mandapam, Reganathar would be back to His sanctum sanctorum carried in His palanquin. It is a feast for our eyes to see Him walking on the sand (manalveli).
If you want to see Veenai Ekandham, you would have to miss His beautiful walk, because you should be early to the mandapam. The doors would be closed before purappadu.

Once you are in the mandapam, you would be taken to heaven by the beautiful play of Veena by Vennai Rengarajan and his sons. Then once Renga comes, we should maintain strict silence. There would be three stoppages on His way to the Sanctum sanctorum.

In each of his stoppage, beautiful songs would be sung / played. Awesome songs. I can assure you that it would bring tears from your eyes, you can never have such peace anywhere in this world !

One such song is the most beautiful - En palli kondeer ayya -Sri Renganatha !

Lyrics goes like this :

Yen Palli Kondeer Ayya Sri RanganathareYen Palli Kondeer Ayya

Aambal Pootha Sayya Paruvatha Maduvile Avadaritha Irandu Aatru Naduvile

Koshikan Sol Kuritharko
Arraki Kulayil Ambu Theriththadharko
Eashan Villai Muriththarko
Parashu Raman uram Pariththadharko

Yen Palli Kondeer Ayya Sri RanganathareYen Palli Kondeer Ayya

Maashiladha Mitheleshan Pennudan Vazhi Nadantha Ilaipo
Dhooshiladha Guhan Odathile Gangai thurai Kadantha Ilaipo
Meesharamaam Chitrakoota Sikarathin Misai Kadantha Ilaipo
Kashinimel Maareechan Oodiya Gathi Thodarndha Ilaipo

Odi Kalitho
Deviyai Thedi Ilaitho
Marangum Yezhum Tholaitho
Kadali Katti Valaitho
Ilangai Yenum Kaaval Maanagarai Iditha Varuthamo
Ravanaadiyarai Tholaitho Varuthamo

Yen Palli Kondeer Ayya Sri RanganathareYen Palli Kondeer Ayya

I had been listening to this right from my childhood, but never once it failed to bring tears to my eyes. Watching Renga in his beautiful Muslin covered clothing (It is said that He is wearing such clothes to protect Himself from Cold winter of December :) ) and listening to the lyrics and the beautiful music, automatically melts my heart.

Will share some more songs of Veenai Ekandham soon. Happy Reading..

Vaikunda Ekadasi

This year i planned my leaves so as to make it to Vaikunda Ekadasi for minimum 10 days and this proved to be a relaxing vacation as well. I was able to let out my stress to my beloved Renga (also i had a fight with him and the reason for that would be narrated shortly).

At Srirangam, my daily routine would definitely include Darshan of my sweet Renga and we never treat Him as Lord or Supreme Power. He is our leader, our mighty King and He lives with us each and every second. He is so beautiful with grace all over and you cannot take your eyes off Him. You can see that naughtiness in his eyes- a mischievous look and a feeling that He is looking at you and you only. I have never felt this way in any other temple.

As Sujatha has rightly said - Nindralum, nadanthalum, kidanthalum antha Arangane !!!
Thondaradipodiyazhwar has sung only on Renga and that goes on without saying that Renga is the only God to have been sung by all 13 Azhwars (including Andal).. Hey, i may look like a fanatic and yes, you are right - I am, when it comes to Renga :)

Happy Reading and await my next post on Vaikunda Ekadasi experiences..Happy New Year friends !!!
